Tatiana, publicly known as T8iana (pronounced Tay-tiana), is Australia's first openly transgender pop singer-songwriter of part Mauritian-Indian and French descent. A rage on social media, her Facebook and Instagram accounts have established a large online following due to her mysterious persona heightened by the sexuality that defines her. Her dance songs have reached Top 40 and Top 100 in the UK iTunes Daily Dance charts in 2022 and #3 in the Canadian iTunes Dance Charts in 2023.
She is described as being a talented songwriter who creates powerful tunes drawn from personal experiences laced with a strong universal appeal. Her singing-songwriting debut has come in the beginning of 2022 - a dance/pop song “What Have You Gotta Say Now?” (produced by Clarence Jey– Grammy Winning LA based record producer, of Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ fame). The song was picked up by BBC Radio 1 playlist amongst other popular Radio stations and entered the Top100 Official iTunes UK Dance Charts on 3rd April 2022.
More recently, after the despicable shootings at an LA Gay nightclub Club Q, T8iana released a retaliatory dance song and music video titled 'Celebrat8ion' encouraging the community to keep celebrating their lives and love. This glamourous clip, featuring national level dancers and aerialists was intentionally filmed at Melbourne's iconic LGTBI frequented nightclub 'LoveMachine'.
T8iana has featured in the Rolling Stone Magazine Global Artist Spotlight in March 2022, that quoted : "T8iana digs into her life experiences, emboldened in the face of childhood bullying and assault she faced" -Rolling Stones Magazine
T8iana believes in giving back to society. She runs a charitable foundation for LGTBIQ+ kids and youth while also supporting a number of other charities like the Starlight Children’s Foundation that supports children and young people facing serious illness.
T8iana currently spends her time between Melbourne, Bangkok and LA.
The struggles that T8iana has gone through growing up transgendered are reflected in her music. She has just finished recording her debut album, heavily influenced by the music of the 80s and 90s underground club culture. As Jey says,“T8iana’s songs are a mix of such power and emotional transparency, I have to be even more careful not to dilute this while producing.”
(Early clips of the songs are available on her Instagram account: the _real_t8iana and on FB: T8iana)
T8iana's debut single is a fun, 125 bpm, dance anthem called 'What Have you got to say now?" The iconic, highly stylized video for this song was filmed in Melbourne, & coincidentally on 20th Nov 2021 - World Trans Remembrance day! T8iana says of the song "It’s like saying F U to all those people who hurt me over the years! I am sure a lot of straight and/or gay people, can relate to that"
Out on February 22, 2022 on all major platforms, the song is available on Spotify/Apple Music and all other major outlets. The video is out on youtube on T8iana 's channel or watch it here!
In this interview, Tony Lazzaro, an established Australian Music Producer and member of the band 'Crystal Cut', interviews T8iana about her life, her music and her inspirations, at the Iconic Abbey Road Café in Melbourne.
